With the title Independence Day: Resurgence announced, 20th Century Fox used its presentation at CineEurope to go behind the scenes on the long-awaited sci-fi sequel.
Speaking from the set in New Mexico, a lively Jeff Goldblum told the audience that he’d been “waiting 20 years” for this moment, adding that “all hell was going to break loose.”
He revealed a giant ‘Moon Tug’ space ship, explained that he was “currently supposed to be in Africa” while surrounded by a group of gun-toting soldiers and later introduced his co-star Liam Hemsworth.
Another behind-the-scenes video came from the Montreal set of X-Men: Apocalypse, where director Bryan Singer gave a tour of some of the locations, including what would become Charles Xaviar’s mansion. He revealed that it would see “some new characters played by younger actors.” Singer also said that in Apocalypse — played by Oscar Isaac — the X-Men franchise had its first “main villain.”

Another franchise returnee was Ice Age: Collision Course, which saw its star sabre-toothed squirrel Scrat introduce a CineEurope exclusive early look.
Another first look was of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s first post-Birdman title, The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.
“After Birdman I decided to tackle a different kind of genre and adventure,” the director said in a video message.
Amid the pre-recorded shout outs, Fox managed to fly out Jeffrey Katzenberg and Jack Black to add star power to the mix for Kung Fu Panda 3, of which an extended eight-minute scene was shown.
“It’s by far the funniest of the three Kung Fu Pandas,” said Black, who claimed that his co-stars Bryan Cranston and J.K. Simmons were the world’s first and second-best actors. “And Po is played by the third best actor in the world,” he joked.
Other films in the presentation included the new trailer for Hitman reboot Hitman: Agent 47, starring Rupert Friend, plus a new international trailer for Victor Frankenstein, starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy as the gothic monster-maker and his assistant.
“It’s the most original script I’ve seen since coming out of a studio,” said Radcliffe in a video message.
With The Martian already having racked up over a 10 million hits, Matt Damon — speaking from China — said he had “incredibly high hopes” for the Ridley Scott space epic.
The presentation closed with a special breakdance performance by U.K. dance troupe Flawless — competitors in the Britain’s Got Talent reality show — for The Peanuts Movie. Fox later held a special party for CineEurope attendees in honor of the 3D comedy, due out in November, which had a giant golden statue of Charlie Brown as its centerpiece.
