As CinemaCon opened Monday in Las Vegas, managing director Mitch Neuhauser announced new security procedures, including bag checks during which a dog named Ferrah will sniff out any potential trouble.
“While we don’t envision a situation at all, we are instituting new security this year,” Neuhauser said.
Ferrah is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois from Las Vegas and a proud member of the elite technical security K-9 unit. Her birthday is July 4, and when she’s off duty, Farrah enjoys swimming, jogging and obedience training.
The exhibitors convention initiated new procedures because of an incident last year when Liongate’s screening of Now You See Me 2 was abruptly halted about 10 minutes into the show and the audience was asked to evacuate due to a security threat.
“When Keanu Reeves left the stage, two delegates hoped to get autographs and didn’t return promptly — and left their backpacks,” Neuhauser said of last year’s incident. “Once that happened, the dominos fell, and we did what we thought was the right thing to do.”
