Mark Zoradi has been named CEO of Cinemark. He will take over the nation’s third-largest theater chain on Aug. 24, succeeding Tim Warner, who will become Cinemark’s executive vice chairman.
A veteran motion picture exec with a background in distribution, Zoradi most recently served as chief operating officer at DreamWorks Animation until January, when he stepped down at DWA amid that company’s staff cutbacks. Prior to Dreamworks, he served as president and COO of Dick Cook Studios, and before that he spent 30 years at Disney in a variety of exec posts at home entertainment, worldwide theatrical distribution/marketing and as president of the motion picture group.
Warner joined Cinemark in 1996 as president of Cinemark International. He has also served as president and CEO of NATO of California/Nevada and as general chairman of NATO/Showest. He will work closely with Zoradi to facilitate the transition, the company said, and will also provide consulting services to the company when his present employment agreement expires.
“Tim Warner is one of the great leaders of our industry. We are grateful for his dedication to our company, as well as his significant contributions to both Cinemark and the global exhibition industry,” said Lee Roy Mitchell, chairman of the board, in announcing the executive transition. “We are confident that Mark Zoradi will be successful with the support of Robert Copple, our president and chief operating officer, and Valmir Fernandes, president of Cinemark International.”
Based in Plano, Texas, Cinemark operates 503 theaters with 5,720 screens in 41 U.S. states as well as in Brazil, Argentina and 12 other Latin America countries.
