Hollingsworth will play a fashion photographer, while Vandervoort fills the previously announced role of Rose, a woman who, following a disfiguring accident, receives an untested stem cell treatment that, while it restores her beauty, has dangerous consequences.
Rabid also stars Hanneke Talbot as Rose’s best friend and Mackenzie Gray as an arrogant fashion designer, while WWE star CM Punk and AJ Mendez also board the Canadian indie. Jen and Sylvia Soska, the twin horror-movie directors who established a cult following with the 2012 cult slasher pic American Mary, have started the cameras rolling on the Rabid reboot, which is set in the world of high fashion.
“We are not fans of the current trend of soulless remakes, as they disrespect the fans and the original body of work. Our Rabid is a continuation of the thoughts and conversation David started, but modernized through a female perspective,” the Soska twins said in a statement.
Back 40 Pictures, which is producing the Rabid remake, plans a U.S. theatrical release, and Shout! Studios’ Scream Factory is distributing the film across multiple platforms in the U.S. A71 Entertainment will distribute Rabid in Canada, with 101 Films handling the United Kingdom.
Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde and John Vidette share the producing credits.
