James McAvoy will star opposite Charlize Theron in Coldest City, Focus Features and Sierra/Affinity’s Sierra Films’ adaptation of the Oni Press graphic novel.
Stunt coordinator-turned-director David Leitch (John Wick) is directing.
The Kurt Johnstad-written script tells of how, just days before the fall of the Berlin Wall, two spies from opposite sides are chasing a list that has the names of Cold War spies, on both sides, before it gets into the wrong hands.
Theron and Leitch are producing with Beth Kono, A.J. Dix, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin and Kelly McCormick.
Production is due to begin next month in Budapest and continue shooting in Berlin.
Before McAvoy heads to City, he will shoot M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, an untitled supernatural thriller being produced by Jason Blum.
This past summer, the actor wrapped shooting his third X-Men foray, X-Men: Apocalypse and has Victor Frankenstein, a revisionist take on the Frankenstein story that co-stars Daniel Radcliffe, awaiting a Nov. 25 release.
McAvoy is repped by UTA and United Agents.
