Oscar winner Firth will star opposite Emily Blunt in an untitled dark comedy from commercials director Dante Ariola.
Jason Merritt/Getty ImagesLONDON – Oscar winner Colin Firth and his fashion entrepreneur wife Livia along with Kristin Davis and Rooney Mara will attend a charity event for development charity Oxfam during the upcoming Dubai International Film Festival.
Firth and his wife are global ambassadors for Oxfam along with Sex and the City star Davis and are expected to be on hand for the annual “One Night to Change Lives” event under the patronage of UN messenger of peace Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, the wife of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.
Amr Waked (Syriana, Salmon Fishing In the Yemen) and British-Emirati filmmaker Ali Mostafa (City of Life) are also set to attend the event.
All proceeds from the black tie gala dinner and auction featuring one-of-a-kind prizes donated by celebrity Oxfam partners will go to the UAE-based philanthropic organization Dubai Cares and Oxfam.
This is the second year that Firth has attended DIFF, following his visit in 2010 with The King’s Speech. Livia Firth is Oxfam’s newest global ambassador, creative director of www.eco-age.com and founder of the Green Carpet Challenge. Davis will attend the DIFF for the first time.
Last year’s event raised more than $1 million through ticket sales and the auction.
Oxfam is an independent non-profit organization that works with others to overcome poverty around the world.
The charity has worked with Dubai Cares since 2008 to improve access and quality education for nearly 63,000 school children in some of the world’s poorest countries, including Mali, Niger and Pakistan.
Oxfam’s global ambassadors also include Scarlett Johansson, Minnie Driver, Gael Garcia Bernal, Djimon Hounsou, Rahul Bose, musicians Coldplay and Annie Lennox.
