Broadway musical Come From Away is jumping from the stage to the screen, thanks to the Mark Gordon Company.
Irene Sankoff and David Hein, who wrote the book, music and lyrics for the musical, will return to pen the feature, which will be produced by Gordon.
Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 passengers stranded after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a small town in Newfoundland, where they were housed and welcomed.
The musical was up for seven awards, including best musical and score, at this year’s Tonys, where it earned best direction of a musical honors.
The Mark Gordon Company, which is behind Kenneth Branagh’s recently released Murder on the Orient Express, will finance the film. International rights are being handled by eOne.
