Chris Columbus and his 1492 production company are plotting a four-part horror anthology film based on Creepy magazine. Columbus will write and direct one of the four stories and oversee the project with 1492’s Michael Barnathan. Besides Columbus, three other directors are expected to take part in the project.

To bring the feature to the screen, 1492 is partnering with Submarine/New Comic Company’s principals Dan Braun and Josh Braun and producer Sara Feldmann Sheehan.
Creepy was an American horror comic magazine put out by Warren Publishing from 1964-83. It featured work by some of the top artists and writers of the era with covers by master fantasy illustrators like Frank Frazetta. Contributors included Spider-man artist Steve Ditko, Bernie Wrightson, Gene Colan, Richard Corben, Al Williamson and Wally Wood.
All rights to Creepy and its sister publication Eerie were acquired by the Brauns with partners Rick Brookwell and Craig Haffner under the holding company New Comic Company in 2007. Sheehan partnered with the Brauns and brought Creepy and Eerie to the team at 1492.
“I am thrilled to be immersed once again in the world of Creepy and Eerie,” Columbus said. “They featured some of the most important comic book artists of the time and were incredibly influential in my desire to become a filmmaker. It is really exciting to have the opportunity to bring these unique tales to the screen and share them with today’s audiences.”

Said the Brauns: “We have always been fans of anthology horror films such as the Trilogy of Terror and Tales From the Crypt, and it has been our goal to figure out a way to make a great Creepy anthology. Chris and Michael and their team at 1492 are the perfect partners to bring this to life.”
Columbus is repped by WME. New Comic Company is managed by Mosaic Media and represented by ICM.
