Conrade Gamble II, a stuntman in dozens of action films and TV shows like The Amazing Spider-Man, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, 24 and Alias, died July 12 of natural causes at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, a friend reported. He was 45.
The Gulf War veteran served as a stunt double for Ving Rhames on such films as Sin (2003), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Give’ Em Hell Malone (2009) and on the telefilms Little John (2002) and Football Wives (2007).
Gamble’s résumé also included work as a stunt coordinator, performer or double on the films XXX: State of the Union (2005), Takers (2010), The Green Hornet (2011) and Bolden!, an upcoming feature starring Anthony Mackie as ragtime cornetist Buddy Bolden, and the TV series The District, Crossing Jordan and Fastlane.
“He was a superstar, but he was humble,” said friend Kipling Wilson II, operations manager with Telepictures’ Mathis Productions. “I’d ask him how things were going and he’d say that things were slow, and then I’d hear he was in Spider-Man and G.I. Joe, and I’d say, “Oh, really?!”
The Chicago native and Howard University alum was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, whose ranks include Bill Cosby, Steve Harvey, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal.
Survivors include his parents Marian and Charles Gamble, his sister Charma and his daughters Asia and Mya. A memorial service took place July 21 at the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City.
