Last night, on the tails of London Fashion Week, actress Dakota Fanning celebrated her directorial debut at a party hosted by stylist and Love magazine editor Katie Grand at LouLou’s nightclub in Mayfair. The 23-year-old Fanning teamed up with fashion brand Miu Miu (and friend Liz Hannah, writer of The Post) to create the 15th short film for the Italian label’s “Women’s Tales” campaign, a series by female filmmakers such as Agnes Varda, Chloe Sevigny and Ava DuVernay.
The film, titled “Hello Apartment,” tells the story of a pink-haired woman named Ava (Irish actress Eve Hewson of The Knick, who unsurprisingly dons Miu Miu in the movie) and her first love (Tom Sturridge).
“The anxiety you feel in the beginning of a day, it just doesn’t go away, and you go home and it still doesn’t go away because you are going back the next day,” Fanning told THR of directing. “As an actor if somebody asks me a question and I don’t know the answer, I send them to ask the director, and then you become that person.”
Fanning’s sister, Elle; Luke Evans, her co-star in TNT’s period crime thriller The Alienist; Robert Pattinson; Sturridge; Adwoa Aboah; and Naomi Campbell were among the crowd at the dinner and dance party.
Next up, Dakota Fanning will take on her first-time role as producer for Kirsten Dunst’s adaptation of The Bell Jar, which Fanning also stars in, said to release later this year.
