Damien Chazelle took home the Golden Globe for best screenplay, motion picture, on Sunday night for La La Land.
The screenwriter beat out Tom Ford for Nocturnal Animals, Barry Jenkins for Moonlight, Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea and Taylor Sheridan for Hell or High Water.
Chazelle, who also directed the musical drama, thanked his fellow nominees and film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in his acceptance speech, saying, “Ryan and Emma, you literally made my dream come true every day on set.”
The award marked the screenwriter-director’s first Golden Globe win.
Jimmy Fallon hosted the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 8.
