Dance Film ‘High Strung’ Picked Up by Paladin for U.S. Release

Paladin has inked a deal to release Michael Damian’s dance-driven film High Strung in the U.S.

The movie, which made its world premiere recently at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, will be released theatrically on more than 100 screens nationwide on April 8.

High Strung follows the artistically charged lives of a hip-hop violinist, a classical dancer and an innovative hip-hop crew in New York City. Directed by Damian, best known as the Broadway star of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and a regular on The Young and the Restless, the film was written and produced by Damian and his wife, dancer Janeen Damian.

High Strung stars ballerina Keenan Kampa, Nicholas Galitzine, Jane Seymour and Sonoya Mizuno. Dave Scott (Step Up 3D, So You Think You Can Dance) did the choreography.

Kampa stars as Ruby Adams, a dancer from the Midwest with a scholarship to one of New York’s toughest performing arts schools. Johnnie Blackwell (Galitzine) portrays an aspiring British musician, playing for money on subway platforms. Ruby’s world is classical and disciplined; Johnnie’s is improvisational and street smart. When the two young artists are thrown together, they immediately clash. But neither can deny the sparks that fly between them or their shared ambition of trying to make it in the most competitive city in the world.

The Orchard has home entertainment rights and will launch the film after its theatrical release in the spring.

Bloom Media handled worldwide sales with Disney International acquiring most of the international rights.
