First he was rumored to be in it. Then he almost-kind-of-but-not-really-denied the rumors. But now it’s been clarified: Daniel Craig does, in fact, appear in a cameo role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
According to Entertainment Weekly — warning to those who click through: there are spoilers at that link — Craig makes an almost invisible cameo as a Stormtrooper.
This despite his earlier commentary on the subject, where he laughed at the idea, saying, “Why would I ever bother doing something like that? F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie?”
With this confirmation, Craig joins the ranks of celebrities making surprise contributions to the movie. Simon Pegg‘s cameo was confirmed via a behind-the-scenes video released during San Diego Comic-Con, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda co-wrote the music for a Cantina scene, and this week it was revealed that Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz worked on the “voice” of new droid BB-8.
Forget Easter egg shout-outs to other movies; the new game for The Force Awakens is clearly trying to see if any more famous faces can be found in the background of each shot.
