Daniel Radcliffe will be honored with the Trevor Project’s Hero Award.
The Harry Potter star (see photos from the London premiere of Deathly Hallows) has been involved with the organization, which provides crisis support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youths, since 2009, when he began appearing in PSAs.
“It’s fantastic. The fact that they think of what I’ve done by promoting awareness of the Trevor Project itself and the issues that it works to promote and help is a great honor,” he told the Associated Press.
“The people that are doing the heroic things are the people answering phones 24 hours a day in the Trevor call centers,” he added. “I think that out of everything that I’ve done so far in my career, I think this is absolutely one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I’m associated with.”
He’ll be honored at a ceremony in New York, where he is currently starring on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, on June 11.
Past recipients of the Trevor Hero Award include Nathan Lane, Vanessa Williams and Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.
