The genre film festival Beyond Fest will present a 13-film retrospective of the career of David Cronenberg, entitled Cronenberg with Cronenberg: A Retrospective of the New Flesh. Co-presented by Telefilm Canada and with the support of the Consulate General of Canada, the retrospective will run from Sept. 27 through Oct. 4 at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian and Aero Theaters.
Cronenberg is expected to attend three of the Egyptian screenings along with his actors and collaborators.
An all-day marathon of the director’s early films will be presented Sept. 29 at the Egyptian Theatre under the umbrella title The Shaping of Rage, and that evening Cronenberg will be joined by longtime collaborator Howard Shore for a 30th anniversary screening of Dead Ringers with director Mick Garris moderating a post-screening Q&A.

The Sept. 30 program will feature a double-bill of The Fly and Naked Lunch, and Cronenberg will be joined by Shore and The Fly’s Geena Davis.
An Oct. 1 double-bill will spotlight Videodrome and Existence, and Cronenberg will be joined by Shore, actresses Debbie Harry and Jennifer Jason Leigh in a discussion moderated by Leigh Whannell.
“David Cronenberg has been a visionary master of the art of cinema for over four decades,” said Beyond Fest co-founder Christian Parkes. “Screening these iconic films here in L.A. with his collaborators and partners is an absolute dream. Unless Kubrick is in hiding, we will probably quit after this.”
In addition to the screening events at the Egyptian Theatre, there are two double-bills planned for the Aero Theatre: A History of Violence paired with Eastern Promises and Crash coupled with Spider.
