Just a week before his latest awards-tipped feature, Joy, bows in the U.S., David O. Russell is due to give BAFTA’s prestigious David Lean lecture in London on Dec. 19.
Previous speakers of the talk – aimed at providing an insight into the experiences and achievements of some of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers – include the likes of Paul Greengrass, David Lynch and Oliver Stone.
“David O Russell is a passionate and inspirational filmmaker and we are thrilled that he has agreed to deliver this year’s BAFTA David Lean Lecture,” said Pippa Harris, chair of the BAFTA Film Committee. “Russell’s ability to coax extraordinary performances from his cast is truly exceptional, as is the range, wit, originality and sheer brilliance of the films he makes. We are extremely fortunate to have this chance to benefit from his insights into the industry.”
Alongside his five Oscar nominations, Russell has won two BAFTAs, the first for Silver Linings Playbook and the second for American Hustle.
