There’s one problem with being in one of the coolest movies of 2018: You want to talk about it but just can’t.
Deadpool 2 star Stefan Kapicic met up with Heat Vision at a cafe a few blocks away from the heart of San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, where he was geeking out even more than the average fan. Sitting casually with his publicist and his girlfriend, he chatted happily about seeing Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld at the convention, and recording Kevin Smith’s ringtone in the voice of Colossus.
“I am a comic book fan. I would love if I could share, because it’s incredible what’s going on,” the actor said of Deadpool 2, fresh from the Vancouver set.
The film has been shooting for a little less than a month, and he expects his work to go all the way up until post-production in April 2018.
“When they [fans] find out what’s happening in the sequel …” he said wistfully, before trailing off as to not violate his NDA.
The actor’s take on Colossus was an instant hit in 2016’s Deadpool, with the metal-covered X-Man and his colleague Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) putting Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in his place (sometimes that involved pounding him into the ground). For Kapicic, Deadpool was the first time the Russian X-Men character was given as much screen time as he deserved, and he teased the sequel would be bigger and better for Colossus.
“He didn’t have time at all in the X-Men movies, and he’s one of the iconic characters. He needed that space, and thank God [director] Tim Miller and Ryan and Fox decided to give him a spot, which will continue to grow. That’s the thing I can say … the sequel will answer many questions, which people are asking right now. Because all the questions I can see on the net are answered in the sequel.”
For Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde director David Leitch is stepping into the franchise following Tim Miller’s exit.
“The way he is working with me, how to bring more of Colossus is unbelievable,” Kapicic said. “He just relaxes you and is so intelligent and is a visionary. Which you can see through his movies.”
Deadpool 2, which also stars Josh Brolin as Cable, opens June 1, 2018.
