The California Highway Patrol went into action at about 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a burning vehicle on the 101’s eastbound right shoulder, according to the agency’s incident log. A pair of off-duty nurses assisted the driver, and two eastbound lanes were closed for a short time. Van Dyke was not mentioned by name in the incident report.
According to the incident report, he may not have been aware his car was on fire before the rescue.
TMZ posted video of Van Dyke’s burning car, with a man named Jason Pennington telling the site he pulled the actor from the car. Van Dyke told the site he was unharmed, and a man pulled him from the car, thinking the actor had fainted.
