Following one trailer and a couple of World Cup-related Facebook teases, Disney has finally released more details of the cast and characters of its upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation Big Hero 6. For those of you hoping that 30 Rock’s Scott Adsit voice a giant robot, this fall will be a very happy time for you.
Adsit provides the voice for Baymax, the robot created by Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter, perhaps best known for this role in Nickeolodeon’s Supah Ninjas) in the first trailer for the movie. They’ll be joined on the team by Fred (described as “a big sci-fi and comic book geek,” and voiced by T.J. Miller), Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez) and Damon Wayans Jr.’s Wasabi.
Also making voice appearances in the movie will be Alan Tudyk as tech guru Alistair Krei, James Cromwell as robotics expert Professor Robert Callaghan and Maya Rudolph as Hiro’s Aunt Cass.
The casting of members of the core team was announced by directors Don Hall and Chris Williams at USA Today, with the directors giving short descriptions of each character; Hiro and Baymax are “symbiotic” in battle, whereas Go Go is “the only one who can take care of herself” initially; Honey is sweet and “girlie” but evolves to become super hero material, and Wasabi ultimately “embraces the chaos of what being a super hero is all about.”
Nowhere, sadly, is there any comment about the retaining of the potentially-offensive names of the characters (Really, “Wasabi” and “Honey Lemon”?), but there’s still time before the movie’s release on November 7.
