Disney on Wednesday announced that the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride will open in late May.
The ride, which replaces the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in California Adventure, will open May 27, according to the Disney Parks blog.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will be a free-fall ride which is currently being made to resemble a power plant called “The Collector’s Fortress.” Benicio Del Toro played the Collector in the 2014 hit film.
The sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to open in theaters May 5.
The Disney blog previously described the refitted ride as an “epic new adventure combining the familiar, breathtaking free-fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects, including music inspired by the popular Guardians of the Galaxy film soundtrack.”
The ride will have a number of different experiences so repeat visitors will not be able to anticipate the drops.
Plenty of Guardians fans are psyched for the ride, but there also were those who were not pleased that the classic Tower of Terror, which opened in California Adventure in 2004, was being removed.
Still, fans seem to be excited for the Marvel sequel, with Vol. 2 recently scoring an extremely rare perfect 100 in a test screening.
Along with the new ride, there also will be characters from the films making appearances in the theme park, according to the Disney blog.
