TORONTO – Ahead of production shortly starting in Newfoundland, Canadian actor/director Don McKellar has been hired to replace Ken Scott as director of the English-language remake of La Grande Seduction.
Scott wrote the script for the original 2003 French language box office hit, and later penned the English remake script for indie producer Max Films.
But with Scott now directing another English-language remake of his most recent box office hit, Starbuck, for DreamWorks, Max Films’ Roger Frappier scrambled to find a replacement.
Frappier, who produced the original Le Grand Seduction, turned to McKellar, who became available after his sitcom Michael : Tuesday & Thursday was cancelled by the CBC.
“In situations of emergency we have to find exceptional answers, and for me Don McKellar is an exceptional filmmaker,” Frappier said Wednesday.
Two additional remakes of La Grand Seduction in France and Italy are also in the works.
The upcoming English-Canadian remake will be co-produced by Barbara Doran, founder of Morag Loves Company, and French producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam of Stone Angels Production.
