The throwback action-drama Drive is the latest in a string of varied roles that Ryan Gosling has embraced since appearing in Remember the Titans in 2000.
His character in Drive, known merely as “the Driver,” is a man of few words. He’s a stunt car driver by day who moonlights behind the wheel for jobs that require fast getaways, i.e., robberies. When the Driver becomes involved with a married neighbor (Carey Mulligan) and her ex-con husband, his life takes a violent turn.

Gosling’s previous leading roles in movies like The Notebook and Sundance winner The Believer show the actor’s versatility: he’s a romantic leading man in The Notebook and an angry Jewish neo-Nazi in The Believer.
The actor took a comic turn earlier this year in Crazy, Stupid, Love and solidified his indie cred in films including 2010’s Blue Valentine and 2007’s Lars and the Real Girl, in which he played a mild-mannered man in love with a blow-up doll.
Gosling’s upcoming projects include The Ides of March, The Place Beyond the Pines (which reunites him with Blue Valentine director Derek Gianfrance), and The Gangster Squad.
