Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter late Sunday to issue a very special message for his Chinese fans.
“Ni hao China!” the global action star wrote. “Obviously your boy is still working on perfecting his Mandarin, but I’m excited to be the first to share the big news that our new movie Rampage is coming to your theaters April 13th.”
Given that Twitter is blocked in China, Johnson also made sure to send the message out over Weibo, the Twitter-like Chinese social media platform.
Attached to the posts was a video message from Johnson, followed by a new Chinese-language trailer for Rampage.
The release date means Rampage will roll out simultaneously in the world’s two largest film markets, North America and the Middle Kingdom. Originally, Rampage was set to open stateside on April 20, but New Line moved it up one week to get some space between Avengers: Infinity War, which is now going out on April 27, a weekend earlier than originally planned.
Based on the hit 1980s video game, Rampage follows Davis Okoye and his best friend George, an albino gorilla, as they battle monsters in a big city. Brad Peyton (San Andreas) directs the Warner Bros. feature, which also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
