Eddie Murphy will receive the Distinguished Artisan Award during the 8th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.
Arsenio Hall will present the award to his Coming 2 America co-star during Local 706’s virtual awards ceremony on April 3.
“From The Nutty Professor to Prince Akeem, Eddie Murphy is a legendary actor whose myriad of characters live in our hearts forever,” said Local 706 president Julie Socash. “He has expertly created memorable personalities in numerous award winning films, often portraying multiple characters in the same film. This award recognizes all the hours that he has spent in the make-up chair collaborating with our talented and innovative make-up artists and hair stylists, and we celebrate these great relationships and Eddie’s enormous talents.”
Murphy is the most commercially successful African American actor in motion pictures and is one of the industry’s top five box-office performers overall, the Guild noted in Tuesday’s announcement. The actor’s long list of credits include the films Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor, 48 Hrs., Trading Places and Dreamgirls, for which he earned an Oscar nomination.
In 2020, Murphy received a Golden Globe award nomination for Dolemite Is My Name and an Emmy Award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his return to his comedy alma mater, Saturday Night Live.
As previously announced, Matthew Mungle and Terry Baliel will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards during the upcoming Local 706 awards ceremony. The complete list of nominees can be found here.
