Elle Fanning has been cast in Francis and The Godfather — the project about the making of The Godfather — playing Ali MacGraw.
She joins a cast that also includes Oscar Isaac as Francis Ford Coppola, Jake Gyllenhaal as producer Robert Evans, and Elisabeth Moss as Eleanor Coppola.
Barry Levinson will direct Francis and The Godfather, which is based on a Black List script by Andrew Farotte that was redeveloped with Levinson.
The feature will chronicle the battles between Coppola, who was 31 at the time, and Evans, which included taking a gamble on casting Marlon Brando, who had not had a hit in years, and a then-little-known Al Pacino. At the time, MacGraw was married to Paramount’s head of production Evans.
Echo Lake Entertainment’s Mike Marcus, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding are producing along with Kevin Turen, Jon Levin and Baltimore Pictures’ Jason Sosnoff.
Endeavor Content is handling worldwide sales of the project, which does not yet have distribution.
Fanning, repped by UTA, Echo Lake Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson, was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role on Hulu’s The Great. She will next star with her sister Dakota in the feature film adaptation of The Nightingale for TriStar and director Mélanie Laurent.
