Dexter Fletcher’s Elton John biopic Rocketman is shifting its release date by two weeks from May 17, 2019, to May 31, Paramount announced Thursday.
Kingsman actor Taron Egerton will star as the famed singer-songwriter, from his days at the Royal Academy of Music to his rise on the rock ‘n’ roll scene of the 1970s and ’80s and his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in the ’90s to international superstardom.
Egerton will do the singing and has already recorded songs at Abbey Road Studios. The ensemble cast includes Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard and Gemma Jones.
Paramount picked up rights to Rocketman earlier this summer.
In its new spot, the biopic is slated to open opposite Godzilla: King of the Monsters and an untitled Blumhouse pic.
