James Corden and Ilana Glazer are putting on their best faces for EmojiMovie: Express Yourself.
The Sony Pictures Animation title casts the Late Late Show host and the Broad City star for voice roles alongside T.J. Miller in the summer 2017 comedy. A first-look photo from the film was shared with the casting announcement.
Directed by Anthony Leondis, the animated movie introduces a secret world inside smartphones’ messaging apps called Textopolis, a bustling city where all emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression — except for Gene (Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (Corden) and the notorious codebreaker emoji Jailbreak (Glazer). Together, they travel through the most popular and universally recognized smartphone apps to find the code that will fix Gene — until they face a greater danger that threatens to delete their world forever.
EmojiMovie: Express Yourself is produced by Michelle Raimo Kouyate and will be released in theaters by Columbia Pictures on Aug. 11, 2017.
Corden, who hosts The Late Late Show on CBS, books his latest animated gig after a role in Dreamworks‘ Trolls and the titular character of Sony’s Peter Rabbit adaptation. He is repped by CAA and United Agents.
Glazer joins the cast after voicing a character in Netflix’s BoJack Horseman, and will star alongside Kate McKinnon, Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Kravitz and Demi Moore in Sony’s R-rated comedy Rock That Body. She is repped by UTA and Jackoway Tyerman.
