LONDON – Canada’s Entertainment One has made its first high-profile hire since the appointment of industry vet Sally Caplan to spearhead its international movie sales operations bringing in Charlotte van Weede.
Van Weede joins the division in the newly created role of head of sales, based in eOne’s London office, reporting to Caplan in the British capital.
In November, the company hired Caplan and revealed ambitions to expand its international film division and focus more heavily on mainstream films.
Caplan and her team, based in both the U.K. and Canada, aim to expand eOne’s international film business through fresh partnerships with producers, filmmakers and distributors in the U.K., European markets and worldwide.
Van Weede joins eOne from British based sales and finance banner Protagonist Pictures, where she was most recently head of sales.
Her resume also boasts stints at London-based sales and finance house Hanway Films and time spent as vice president, international sales at Summit Entertainment.
She described eOne as “an ambitious company with smart, close-knit sales and distribution teams around the globe that aim to deliver commercial quality films to its distributors and audiences.”
Caplan and van Weede will work closely with fellow sales vet Charlotte Mickie and her Canadian-based team, who will continue to handle product from Canadian film makers, as well as discovering new talent and focusing on more specialist films outside of Canada, such as Sundance winner and critical favorite Beasts of the Southern Wild.
