In the first international trailer for Sony’s upcoming movie version of the ’80s TV show The Equalizer, Denzel Washington tries to be the knight in shining armor to a black-haired Chloe Grace Moretz.
Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.
The trailer opens with him reading a book in a deserted diner, where he watches Moretz get beaten up by a group of thugs. McCall comes out of retirement to save her.
But when he takes out what he believes to be her character’s pimps, he ends up engaging a larger enemy: the Russian Mafia, which wants to know who he is and who he’s working for.
The film also stars Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman and is directed by Washington’s Training Day helmer Antoine Fuqua, who most recently directed Olympus Has Fallen.
