Etan Cohen has been hired by DreamWorks Animation to turn the Bad Guys book series by author Aaron Blabely into an animated feature film.
DWA optioned the illustrated cartoon series about four reformed yet misunderstood villains: Mr. Wolf, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake and Mr. Shark. The Bad Guys book series has sold 2.2 million copies in print since debuting in the U.S. market in December 2016.
The movie’s storyline finds the notorious bad guys tired of people screaming and running away from them, so the foursome decide to become a force for good. Trouble is, they are very bad at being good.
Executive producer credits for the Bad Guys adaptation are shared by Blabely, Patrick Hughes, Damon Ross and Jeff Berg.
Cohen, best known for writing Tropic Thunder, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Men in Black 3, made his directorial debut with Get Hard. He also is writing and directing the upcoming Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy Holmes and Watson. Cohen is repped by CAA and Mosaic.
