Max Martini has joined the cast of Eli, the debut feature from Paramount Players.
Ciaran Foy (Sinister 2) will direct the psychological horror film set in a secluded clinic where an 11-year-old with a rare disease, Eli, is being treated. Soon, the clinic becomes a haunted prison with no way out.
Martini will play Eli’s father, who moves to the isolated treatment facility with his wife after dealing with his son’s mysterious illness for two years. Captain Fantastic actor Charlie Shotwell will lead the cast that also includes Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink and Kelly Reilly.
David Chirchirillo penned the 2015 Black List script, which was revised by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Trevor Macy is producing via his Intrepid Pictures banner, along with Bellevue Productions’ John Zaozirny. Matt Alvarez will executive produce, with Melinda Nishioka co-producing for Intrepid and David O’Leary co-producing for Bellevue.
The horror feature has been on the fast track as the first film to go into production for the recently launched Paramount Players label, which is headed by AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins. Filming is currently underway on Eli, which will hit theaters on Jan. 4, 2019.
Martini, whose feature credits include Pacific Rim and Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, will next be seen in the final installment of the Fifty Shades franchise, Fifty Shades Freed, due out Feb. 9.
Martini also wrote and directed the upcoming Will Gardner, which he produced via his Mona Vista Productions, in which he is partnered with Michael Hagerty. He stars in the feature alongside Lily Rabe, Omari Hardwick and Dermot Mulroney. Also through his production outfit, Martini penned feature Bufalotta — set to be exec produced by Michael De Luca — and has partnered with Fineman Entertainment to produce a scripted series, Steeltown.
He is repped by ICM and Anonymous Content.
