The “Adult Coloring Book” craze is about to get far stranger, with Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk releasing his own entry filled with eight genre-defying tales of strangeness, horror and, it would seem, black-and-white artwork ready for readers to bring to life as they see fit.
In the case of the newly announced Bait: Off-Color Stories for You to Color, which will be published by Dark Horse Books this fall, the artwork will come from a collection of artists include We Are Robin‘s Lee Bermejo, Hellboy‘s Duncan Fegredo and Lady Killer‘s Joelle Jones, each of whom will provide illustrations for one of the eight short stories in the anthology.
The other artists in the book, which will be released as a 8.5 x 11 inch hardcover album, are Kirbi Fagan, Alise Gluskova, Steve Morris, Tony Puryear and Marc Sheff. In total, Bait will feature almost 50 illustrations, according to the publisher.
“Maybe between your colors, the artists’ designs, and my stories we can create something that endures,” Palahniuk writes in the introduction to the book. “Something worth keeping. Let’s create a well-bound book that can sit on any shelf and be available for a new generation to discover and enjoy.”
Bait marks Palahniuk’s second project with independent comic publisher Dark Horse, following his Fight Club 2 collaboration with artist Cameron Stewart, the collected edition of which will be released later this month. Bait is set for release Oct. 26.
