
Gina Rodriguez Michael D Olmos – H 2012
Hot on the heels of hip-hop drama Filly Brown being picked up for distribution, Michael D. Olmos and Gina Rodriguez, the movie’s respective co-director and star, have signed with APA for representation.
In Filly Brown, Rodriguez stars as the atough female rapper who journeys from underground street rapper to pop stardom. Olmos, the son of actor Edward J. Olmos, co-directed the drama with Youssef Delara. The duo also produce the film.
The movie premiered at Sundance to solid notices for both directing and acting. The Indomina Group picked up the worldwide rights Thursday, planning a fall theatrical release.
Olmos’ other feature credits include co-directing Bedrooms (also with Delara), co-writing and directing Splinter, and writing and directing The Last Winter. Among the project he is developing The Girl, based on the true story of Latina boxer Seniesa Estrada. Estrada was determined to be a professional boxer, an act that saved her father’s life.
Rodriguez is attached to star in Girl. The actress has appeared in a range of television shows, from The Bold and the Beautiful and Law & Order to The Mentalist and Happy Endings. Her feature credits include Go For It! and Our Family Wedding.
Olmos is also repped by manager Hicham Benkirane of Vigilante Entertainment and attorney Derek Kroeger. Rodriguez is additionally repped by manager by David Guillod and attorney Karl Austen.
