FilmDistrict is launching High Top Releasing, a boutique label that will offer theatrical booking services to indie producers.
The new label, which will operate as a standalone entity under the FilmDistrict umbrella, will provide distribution-for-hire services, including sales, in-theater marketing and print-control support, film-rental negotiation and collection capabilities to indie producers who have the ability to provide their own prints-and-advertising and marketing resources.
Films released under the High Top moniker will be distinct from FilmDistrict and will not be accounted for in the studio’s box-office revenue share.
The label will make its debut with the release of the romantic drama I’m in Love With a Church Girl, in association with Mission Pictures Releasing, which stars rapper Ja Rule alongside Adrienne Bailon and Michael Madsen; followed by The Ultimate Life, sequel to The Ultimate Gift, starring Peter Fonda, Logan Bartholomew, Bill Cobbs, Lee Meriwether and Ali Hillis.
“The FilmDistrict business plan, which calls for the release of six to nine films a year, leaves us capable of providing additional theatrical distribution services,” FilmDistrict CEO Peter Schlessel said. “We are proud to be able to support independent producers and assist these movies in their theatrical release.”
Recent FilmDistrict releases include Evil Dead, Olympus Has Fallen and Looper.
