After a long delay, a write-capable version of Final Draft, the leading screenwriting software, is now available for Apple’s iPad.
An earlier version for the popular tablet device–Final Draft Reader–allowed users to read but not compose scripts.
Final Draft Writer allows users to create, edit, and read screenplays on the portable device.
It offers the key features available on the desktop version–character highlighting, colored page revision collating, script notes and industry standard formatting templates.
Writers can also seamlessly move .FDX files between their desktop and iPad without losing any formatting or pagination (so long as its formatted in version 8, the most current version).
When the iPad was first released in March 2010 the company announced it was working on a mobile version, even conducting focus groups and signing up beta testers. Finally it released the read-only version in Jan. 2012.
The Final Draft Writer app is available now for an introductory price of $29.99, which will rise to $49.99 on Oct. 1.
It can be purchased at the Final Draft website here.
