“The return draws closer.”
For years, fans have been clamoring for the long-in-production remake of Square’s Final Fantasy VII. On Thursday, they got a new taste.
During its State of Play live stream, Sony unveiled a new look at the upcoming remake of the classic RPG. The new teaser featured gameplay for the first time, as well as voice actors for some of the main cast (the original game was text-only). New footage of heroes Cloud, Barrett and Aerith showed off completely rehauled visuals, while the combat system also seems to have gotten a major upgrade compared to the turn-based action of the 1997 original.
While there is still no release date for the new game, the teaser promised that more information would be revealed in June, presumably near the dates of Los Angeles’ E3 Convention, though Sony has pulled out of this year’s event.
Also unveiled during the event was a release date for another remake, 1999’s MediEvil, which will debut Oct. 25 on the PlayStation 4.
