The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s Crimson Peak has been released, answering the question “What do you get if you put Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska together in a movie?”
The movie, co-written by del Toro with Matthew Robbins, centers around Wasikowska’s character and her love for Hiddleston’s character — a love that concerns her childhood friend, played by Charlie Hunnam. As the trailer reveals, he’s right to be concerned, although the reason why remains as mysterious as Hiddleston’s charming stranger.
Part gothic romance, part supernatural horror, Crimson Peak looks to be a return to del Toro’s horror roots, but there’s an element of psychological terror in the trailer that suggests that there’s much more to this movie than meets the eye. “Ghosts are real,” Wasikowska’s character says at the start of the trailer — but does she mean that literally or figuratively?
Crimson Peak will be released in theaters Oct. 16.
