These are the droids you’re looking for — and the Jedi, and the Sith, and all the other characters from a galaxy far, far away that fans have fallen in love with over the years.
Electronic Arts has released the first trailer for Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, a mobile game that will allow players to “collect” their favorite heroes and villains to form teams to fight for galactic supremacy.
Galaxy of Heroes, which takes the form of “holograms [played] in a cantina far, far away” will let gamers build teams out of characters from the Star Wars universe to “fight in memorable, RPG-style turn-based battles across iconic locations,” according to EA.
(By positioning the game as a game within the fictional universe, Galaxy of Heroes neatly sidesteps the question of whether or not it falls under Lucasfilm’s rule that every Star Wars ancillary release is canonical at this point; the game can be canonical without having to be “true” in the greater Star Wars narrative.)
Locations in the game will include Hoth, Tatooine, Coruscant and Bespin, with characters available coming not only from the six Star Wars movies to date, but also Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. The game will be released “this holiday season,” the studio announced — just in time for the Dec. 18 release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
