The first trailer for Sony’s Flatliners remake previews a handful of heart-stopping moments.
Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons play medical students who, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: stopping their hearts for short periods of time. Each triggers a near-death experience, giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are haunted by the sins of their past, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.
The original 1990 thriller starred Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland, who also appear in the reboot.
Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the original Swedish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, directs from a script by Ben Ripley with a story by Peter Filardi. Laurence Mark, Michael Douglas, and Peter Safran produced the Columbia Pictures title, in association with Cross Creek Pictures and LStar Capital.
Flatliners hits theaters Sept. 29.
