The webwaves are awash in best-of-the-year lists right now, but none of them has the populist edge of Flixster’s.
The following rundown is the result of the average scores Flixster’s 30 million-plus monthly users gave to each movie — a total of 59 million ratings. So according to everyday moviegoers, the 10 best movies of 2010 are:
- The King’s Speech (96% positive)
- Inception (93%)
- The Fighter (91%, tie)
- Toy Story 3 (91%, tie)
- How to Train Your Dragon (90%, tie)
- Tangled (90%, tie)
- True Grit (90%, tie)
- Black Swan (89%, tie)
- The Social Network (89% tie)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (87%)
Unsurprisingly, the lowest-rated movies were MacGruber (34%), Vampires Suck (34%), The Last Exorcism (32%) and Jonah Hex (26%).
“I’m pleased that we can give ordinary moviegoers a voice in the traditional, year-end round ups of best movies,” says Steve Polsky, Flixster’s president and COO. “Our users agreed with a lot of critics by pushing a smaller release, The King’s Speech, to the top of the list. By sharing their ratings and reviews, the Flixster community helps ensure that great films like The King’s Speech find the audiences they deserve.”
