Florida Georgia Line and Monarch Media are partnering for an original country movie musical that will see the Grammy-nominated duo, Tyler Hubbard and Brian “BK” Kelley, create both original music and reimagine country classics.
Plot details for the untitled feature are being kept under wraps, but is described as a “classic movie musical with contemporary sensibilities.”
Principals Steve Barnett and Alan Powell will produce for Monarch, which is behind Netflix’s faith-based musical A Week Away. Hubbard and Kelley will executive produce along with Monarch’s Vicky Patel.
Prolific and award-winning country music video director T.K. McKamy, a longtime collaborator of Florida Georgia Line, will also produce, with an eye to direct.
“There is a feeling that only a great country song can give you,” said Powell. “It can make you smile bigger or cry harder than any other genre and frankly, our goal is to create a film that captures those feelings and puts them on screen in a way that’s never been done before. We believe Florida Georgia Line is the best partner to do that and are thrilled to work with them on this project.”
Added Hubbard and Kelley: “We are so excited to bring a wholly original country musical to the big screen for the very first time. In T.K. McKamy and the team at Monarch Media, we’ve found the perfect partners that will help us bring the emotion and storytelling of country music to the movies for the most passionate music fans in the world to enjoy.”
Monarch’s slate includes another musical, which is based on the WWII biography of a British soldier who was a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany, Do the Birds Still Sing in Hell.
