Sound postproduction company Formosa Group recently signed veteran rerecording mixers Ron Bartlett, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Life of Pi, and Doug Hemphill, an Oscar winner for Last of the Mohicans who also was nominated for Life of Pi, in an exclusive capacity.
Mohicans and Life of Pi are two of eight films for which Hemphill was nominated for an Oscar. He additionally won BAFTAs for Walk the Line, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Almost Famous and The Fabulous Baker Boys. Hemphill began his film career as a mix recordist on Apocalypse Now, and additional credits include several X-Men films, The Insider and Dick Tracy.
Bartlett started in the film business in sound editorial, working on such films as Die Hard, Total Recall and Star Trek V as well as Beauty and the Beast. He then focused on mixing, with credits including Reservoir Dogs, Sherlock Holmes, The Fifth Element, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, 8 Mile and Black Mass. Bartlett also is a composer and musician.
