Cameron and Cathryn Michon (A Dog’s Purpose) will collaborate on the screenplay.
The book goes on sale Oct. 15.
The Dogs of Christmas is the story of Josh, a man with a broken heart who adopts a pregnant dog after his neighbor abandons her.
When he turns to a local animal shelter for help he falls head over heels for Kerri, a woman he meets there.
As the two care for the new puppies and prepare them for the shelter’s “Dogs of Christmas” adoption program, Josh finds himself struggling with his feelings for Kerri and with his reluctance to part with the puppies.
It’s pitched as “heartwarming holiday tale that explores the power of love, trust, and a basket full of puppies.”
Cameron is the author of previous dog-themed bestsellers A Dog’s Purpose and A Dog’s Journey. Dreamworks is developing A Dog’s Purpose.
Cameron’s 2001 book 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage daughter was adapted into an ABC sitcom. The show ran from 2002 to 2005, ending soon after star John Ritter‘s sudden death.
Fox 2000 had success with the 2008 dog-themed project Marley & Me, which grossed $242 million worldwide.
Rodney Ferrell is overseeing the project for Fox. Tracey Nyberg is overseeing for Temple Hill.
Cameron and Michon are repped by APA, The Gotham Group and Myman, Greenspan, Fineman, Fox, & Light LLP. Trident Media Group represents Cameron on his book deals.
