20th Century Fox has acquired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan‘s pitch Outliers for Peter Chernin to produce.
The writers, best known for writing Saw IV, V, VI and VII, have become a hot commodity among the studios, landing such high-profile gigs as God of War, which Universal Pictures is moving quickly on, and Rise for Warner Bros. as well as a two-month rewrite job on Pacific Rim on set with Guillermo del Toro.
The idea for Outliers, which is dubbed as a supernatural action film, came from David Karlak, who is attached to direct. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Outliers marks the second studio feature in the works for up-and-coming Karlak, who was discovered off of his short film The Candidate. He then sold his pitch Rise to Warners, working with Melton and Dunstan.
Underground’s Trevor Engelson is producing Outliers alongside Chernin, Mike Larocca and Jenno Topping. Jason Young is overseeing the project for Fox.
Outliers marks the third studio pitch that Underground has sold in the past three months, joining Diplo at Fox and Buddymoon at Universal, with Scott Stuber producing. Underground also is executive producing the Comedy Central series Bad Advice From My Brother.
Underground, WME and attorney Dave Feldman rep Melton and Dunstan as well as Karlak.
