Monday marked six years since actor and filmmaker Harold Ramis died, and the official Twitter account for Ghostbusters paid tribute by sharing fans’ messages and art. “It’s been 6 years but we’ll carry on his legacy forever. Rest in peace, Harold Ramis,” wrote the official franchise account.
Ramis died in 2014 at the age of 69 due to complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis.The beloved actor and director famously played Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters films and voiced the character for the 2009 video game.
Ramis’ daughter, Violet, also posted a message to social media.
“Very grateful to everyone who reached out today to offer well-wishes on my dad’s deathiversary. Although grief is ever-present, today I am filled with love and appreciation for all he was and the many gifts he gave us,” she said via Twitter, which included a video. “Here he is, the way I will always remember him – talking Big Ideas, full of life and laughter, with a twinkle in his eye, and me looking over his shoulder.”
It appears Egon’s death will play a large plot point in the upcoming film installment Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was written and is being directed by Jason Reitman.
Most of the main cast from the first two films will reprise their characters in Afterlife, which also stars Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace.
The Sony pic is due in theaters July 10.
