The journalist turned author adapted her own novel for David Fincher's Gone Girl.
Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn has joined Steve McQueen to co-write the New Regency heist thriller Widows, which McQueen will also direct.
The film is based on the British miniseries of the same name, which was written by Lynda La Plante (Prime Suspect). The story kicks off when four armed robbers are killed during a failed heist and their surviving widows join forces and resolve to pull off the raid themselves.
As THR reported exclusively, Widows is expected to be McQueen’s next film.
The film will be produced by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films (Shame, The King’s Speech and McQueen’s upcoming HBO project, Codes of Conduct) alongside McQueen. Flynn also wrote the hit novels Sharp Objects and Dark Places, the latter having been adapted into a film. She has been developing the HBO series Utopia — an adaptation of a British series of the same name — with David Fincher.
New Regency recently teamed with Flynn for Fincher’s Gone Girl and with McQueen on the Oscar best picture winner 12 Years a Slave.
Flynn is repped by WME, Stephanie Rostan of Levine/Greenberg/Rostan and attorney Karl Austen of Jackoway Tyerman.
