Jay Basu, the writer behind the recent release The Girl in the Spider’s Web, has been hired to rewrite the screenplay of Universal’s long-gestating Battlestar Galactica movie.
Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy wrote a previous draft of the feature — set to be directed by Hunger Games filmmaker Francis Lawrence — a reimagining of the 1978 sci-fi series that follows a small group of human survivors aboard a battleship tasked with rebuilding society after a massive robot attack.
The series was reimagined as a Syfy miniseries in 2003, which was parlayed into a long-running episodic series from Ronald D. Moore.
Dylan Clark will produce for his Dylan Clark Productions alongside Michael De Luca through his Michael De Luca Productions. Scott Stuber, the former vice chairman of worldwide production at Universal who currently heads original films at Netflix, will executive produce.
Jay Polidoro and Lexi Barta will oversee for the studio. Brian Williams will oversee for Dylan Clark Productions and Elishia Holmes will oversee for Michael De Luca Productions.
Basu is developing a sequel to the David Bowie-starring Labyrinth that is set up at Tristar. He is repped by UTA, 42, Kaplan/Perrone and Lichter Grossman.
