The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s president is grateful to Meryl Streep.
In a personal showing of support, the HFPA’s Lorenzo Soria has reached out to the actress, who was honored by the group with the Cecil B. DeMille Award as she delivered the Golden Globes’ highest profile and most emotional moment on Sunday night, with an email offering his thanks.
In the note, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Soria congratulates the actress and thanks her for supporting the press.
In her acceptance speech, Streep took aim at Donald Trump and stressed the importance for the press to stand up to the president-elect. “We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. … We’re going to need them going forward, and they’re going to need us to safeguard the truth,” she said of journalists.
