The Grand Budapest Hotel and Guardians of the Galaxy won two awards apiece at the annual Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards, held Saturday at the Paramount Studios Theatre.
Grand Budapest hairstylist and makeup artist Frances Hannon and Julie Dartnell claimed trophies for best period and/or character hair styling and best period and/or characters makeup. Guardians’ makeup artist Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou received the award for best contemporary makeup and makeup artist David White for best special makeup effects. Birdman hairstylists Jerry Popolis and Kat Drazen claimed the fifth award in the feature film categories, for best contemporary hairstyling.

The period looks of Grand Budapest‘s ensemble cast, the sci-fi looks in Guardians, along with the work to transform Steve Carell and the rest of the Foxcatcher cast are also nominated for the Oscar for best makeup and hairstyling.
At the guild awards, American Horror Story: Freak Show topped the television competition with three wins, in the categories for best period and/or character makeup, best period and/or character hairstyling, and best special makeup effects.
Also during the ceremony, Ron Perlman presented the Distinguished Artisan Award to Guillermo del Toro. John Landis handed the Make-Up Artist Lifetime Achievement Award to seven-time Oscar-winning makeup vet Rick Baker, and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science president Cheryl Boone Isaacs gave the Hair Stylist Lifetime Achievement Award to Emmy Award-winning hairstylist Kathryn Blondell.
