“This is the moment you’ve waited for,” Hugh Jackman sings in the official trailer for Fox’s upcoming musical The Greatest Showman.
In the film, Jackman plays real-life circus mogul P.T. Barnum, who after becoming unemployed, vows to give his family the life he’s promised them.
Determined to create “a place where people can see things they’ve never seen before,” Barnum begins devising a circus spectacle, which features unique individuals who feel as if the world is ashamed of them.
Visibly struggling to attract audience members to what would become the famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Barnum recruits various characters to join his attraction.
“Don’t listen to them. They don’t understand you, but they will,” Jackman promises his team, after receiving consistent judgment and backlash for their upcoming spectacle.
Alongside his recruits, Barnum hopes to show the world that “no one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.”
“The world is ashamed of us, but you put us in the spotlight. You gave us a real family,” a bearded woman tells Barnum, after he relentlessly vows to abide by his vision.
Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams and Rebecca Ferguson also star in the film, which was directed by Michael Gracey and written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon. The Oscar-winning songwriting team of Benj Pasek (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen) and Justin Paul penned original music for the show-business film.
The Greatest Showman is set to hit theaters on Dec. 20.
